The Wheel of Life (Page 1 of 3)
The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life
Pierre Joseph Landry

You know obviously I am interested in history, and particularly my family lineage, because of the house and my grandmother and so forth, so I've done a lot of research within my family. In the process I found I have receipts from the manifest log on the Golden Eagle, which was a sailing ship that came across that brought my great, great grandfather, and his name was Pierre Joseph Landry. It's fascinating because they have a complete manifest of who all, what all, the ages, and it's fascinating to look at. But anyway, he came across, and he had a son. The ship landed in New Orleans, and for some strange reason, he migrated up the [Mississippi] River and landed in a little spot called Bayou Goula. Bizarre, it was very bizarre.

Pierre Joseph Landry

So here's Pierre Joseph Landry, in 1715, but he migrates into this area, the same place that I found when I was 14 years old, for some strange reason. But anyway, he was a sugar cane farmer. He had a place on the River Road, in Bayou Goula, and it was called Palo Alto; and apparently he did very well. But later in life he had some physical problems. He had something wrong with his legs and I've read conflicting reports as to what was wrong with him, but nevertheless, he was confined to a wheelchair. This is where I get particularly interested because this is kind of how it ties back to me.
