Dorseyville School building, 1994 |
Many students who finished at the Dorseyville School are very productive
citizens, and I'm proud to say that I am one of them.
We have college librarians,
we have persons who have served as principals of schools, we have persons
who have served as supervisors of schools, and we have had many, many
good teachers who have served, who are graduates of the Dorseyville School. You
notice I might continue to use the word "Teacher,"
"Educator," "Librarian,"
it was the only thing that Blacks could do at the time. I feel that because
it was an open field at the time.

Other fields were probably more expensive.
We would have to go to school a long time.
But in going to be a Teacher,
many of the teachers, and Miss Gant was one of them, who finished High
School and began her teaching career. During the summer time she went
back to school, took hours and completed that career. So we need to pass
on this legacy to our children. To let them know that times have not always
been that easy. But even though the times were not easy, we still hung
in there and became very productive citizens.
