A Family Tradition of Art (Page 6 of 8)

The Road Above the Clouds

If you like green you'll like this picture. It shows some of the wash shed that I kind of remember and a scarecrow which he enhanced with playing arms and wild, wide deep socket eyes, other than that it reflects some of the rest of the picture. The only thing is that the clouds have a tendency to droop.

In so far as his everyday life this picture probably reflects more of what he did and what surrounded him. It shows the cemetery with a lot of modern granite monuments in it. He worked on that, which was his most successful and last business. As far as the trees in the background, this picture shows a lot of cedar trees which were popular in cemeteries in South Louisiana. If you look at the clouds they are very turbulent, evidently he thought that death was not something he wanted to experience at the moment. Another texture here is the sand he used on the monument where he just dropped it in the paint. This was done on the steps of a lot of old buildings to make the surface abrasive enough to hold your feet and keep you from slipping off. That is maybe where he picked-up that technique. It has a lot of almost movement in the trees, like there is a wind blowing. Too bad he didn't tell us all this before he left.
