But Krewe du Roi is a little over thirty years old and it was founded by a fellow by the name of Charles Brooks, who actually was the man that resurrected modern-day Mardi Gras in the City of Plaquemine. We had a lot of Mardi Gras balls and parades in the twenties and the thirties that just died out over the years. Most of them died out during the War; when the War and the Depression hit they just died down.

But he came in in the '60s and really resurrected the modern-day balls that we have. Krewe du Roi was the first one that was formed. From Krewe du Roi grew so large that Krewe of Cypress was formed for some of the off-shoots of the members that we haven't been able to take care of. We also have another one, the Krewe of Okeanos, that's formed, and that's a woman's Krewe. So they all three exist.
