I've been involved with Mardi Gras Krewes
in Plaquemine basically all my life. I mean I grew up in it. My mother and father was one
of the founding members of Krewe du Roi, and, a Krewe du Roi is strictly a men's
Krewe, and that's just a tradition that comes from New Orleans. Now we do have other
Krewes in Plaquemine that'll allow men and women, we have two other Krewes.
But basically there's two distinct differences in Mardi Gras between us and New Orleans.

New Orleans is a lot more parade-oriented Mardi Gras and we're strictly a ball-oriented Mardi Gras,
where we basically put all our time and effort in to a couple of major social events every year, one
being a Mardi Gras Ball, which we always have our ball the Saturday before Fat Tuesday, I mean
that's just our tradition and we have it there.
